Micro-Adventure <\/em>: Family Ski Vacations <\/em>Through the Eyes of a Teen: So Cool!<\/h2><\/div>\n\n

Ugh, this year, my parents booked a family ski vacation at the Puy Saint Vincent resort. No friends\u2014just my parents and my little sister… And it’s not even certain there’ll be good cell service at this ski resort in the Hautes-Alpes. It’s going to be a loooong time… <\/p>\n\n

Ski Vacations in Puy Saint Vincent: Skiing <\/em>on the Slopes and Off-Piste<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n

My little sister, Rose, is so excited the moment she arrives. She\u2019s going to put on skis for the first time\u2014she can\u2019t sit still. She\u2019s taking ski lessons<\/a> with Virginie, a really nice instructor, and is making friends right away. For me, a ski vacation isn\u2019t quite as much fun: I\u2019m going to hit the slopes at the Puy Saint Vincent resort with <\/a>my parents. We start off slowly to get back into the swing of things<\/strong>, then tackle one run after another with increasing ease. <\/p>\n\n

I spot a trail through the trees, followed by a little jump, and lead my parents down it. They go along with it and seem to be having as much fun as I am. All in all, it\u2019s cool to ski with them. <\/p>\n\n

Family Ski Touring Trip<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

While Rose is in her ski class (she loves it!), my dad suggests we try ski touring on the<\/strong> resort\u2019s secure trail<\/strong>. We rent the equipment<\/a> and listen carefully to the instructions: how to fasten and unfasten the boots and bindings, and how to use the climbing skins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I hear the phrase \u201cseal skins,\u201d I\u2019m horrified. Are seals being killed so we can climb to the top of the mountain? No, the ski guide reassures me; these days, climbing skins are made of synthetic materials and\/or mohair. I start the climb in second place, between my father and my mother. I have to admit, that reassures me. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ski touring is a lot of fun<\/strong> but physically demanding. The hardest part<\/strong> is changing direction. I end up with my legs in the air, which makes us all laugh! <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ski Vacations:<\/em> After-Ski Fun with the Family Is Great, Too<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n

After skiing, the four of us get together at our lodging<\/a> to have a snack, draw, or play board games. Basically, all the kinds of things we never do together at home. It\u2019s a real shame. <\/p>\n\n

Late in the afternoon, we watch a show on the snowfront<\/strong> at the Puy Saint Vincent resort. The atmosphere is enchanting and magical. Rose and I dance to the music. For once, there\u2019s no bickering between us. <\/p>\n\n
