Champcella<\/em> Between Roman remains and rural traditions<\/h2><\/div>\n\n

Champcella, perched on the balconies of the right bank of the Durance, is the link between the Durance valley and that of Freissini\u00e8res. Shared in hamlets, it combines architectural heritage (ovens, fountains, stone houses, Saint-Laurent-de-Rame chapel) and ancient traces with the site of Rama, a stop on the Roman road Via Cottia per Alpem<\/em>. The town church, the Gallo-Roman remains and the stepped landscape \u2014 from the bottom of the valley to the mountain pastures of Tramouillon and Val-Haute \u2014 give this territory a marked identity, bathed in generous sunshine and a southern climatic influence. <\/p>\n\n

Champcella is also a starting point for hiking<\/a>, trail running<\/a>, and mountain biking<\/a>, with routes that climb toward the T\u00eate de Vautisse (3,156 m) or wind along the surrounding ridges. Rock climbers will find local routes, and the proximity of the Durance River offers opportunities for whitewater sports. In winter, cross-country skiing, ski touring, and snowshoeing are easily accessible from the neighboring Freissini\u00e8res Valley. Lake Rama, a former quarry that has been converted into a lake, rounds out the offerings with easy nature breaks. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

In winter, Champcella serves as a convenient starting point for exploring the Pays des \u00c9crins: the Freissini\u00e8res<\/strong> area (open from mid-December to mid-March) offers more than 15 km of cross-country ski<\/strong> trails and snowshoe loops<\/strong> in a quiet and sunny atmosphere. Ski touring<\/strong> enthusiasts can set off from Champcella to the Col de Tramouillon<\/strong> or the T\u00eate de Vautisse<\/strong> via classic routes (always keeping an eye on the conditions and avalanche risks). You can also vary the outings with snowshoe walks to the neighbouring hamlets or rely on local structures for supervised experiences, such as discovering Nordic skiing with the family. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
