Low-Carbon Getaway

Micro-adventure: A Low-Carbon Getaway in Pelvoux-Vallouise

The year has barely begun, and we’re already feeling tired. In our opinion, there’s only one remedy: head out for a low-carbon getaway in the mountains of Écrins National Park. We’re taking the train to the Écrins, with Pelvoux-Vallouise as our final destination.

A low-carbon getaway starts with a car-free trip

The train takes us to the L’Argentière-Les Écrins station. Traveling without a car is already a way to start unwinding: we read, chat, and play board games. We don’t notice the time passing, and before we know it, we’ve already arrived at L’Argentière-La Bessée. The Écrins are just a train ride away!

At the train station, Fred greets us with a smile. He’ll be our guardian angel throughout our stay. Although he has a large electric vehicle, we’re having trouble fitting all our luggage inside. Maybe we’re carrying too much. Traveling light is also part of a sustainable trip. We promise we’ll do better next time.

Our sustainable vacation, certified with the “Esprit Parc” label

For us, a retreat only makes sense if it aligns with our values. That’s why we chose a getaway certified by “Esprit Parc , ” a socially responsible brand that perfectly embodies the spirit of the region.

By “committed brand,” we mean sharing, authenticity, and respect—respect for nature, for cultural heritage, and for the men and women who produce, welcome, and pass on these traditions. Buying locally, preserving biodiversity, and promoting traditional craftsmanship: these commitments have a tangible impact. And we quickly realize that the “Esprit Parc” brand is much more than a logo: it’s a promise kept.

A cozy retreat to slow down

Our lodging immediately becomes our sanctuary. The welcome is warm and attentive, the stove purrs, the lighting is soft, and the sofas invite you to curl up. We feel right at home immediately. A beautiful, light-filled room opens up to the mountains, and in one corner, the Tibetan singing bowl is ready to resonate.
It’s time to sit down to dinner. The cuisine is organic and locally sourced.

We enjoy dishes that are as beautiful as they are delicious—a treat for both the taste buds and the eyes. Delicate, colorful, and fragrant, we savor every bite.

Yoga: A Cornerstone of a Low-Carbon Getaway

After a good night’s sleep in complete silence, the body feels refreshed. We start the day with a yoga session. From the very first movements, the benefits are evident: relaxation, flexibility, deep breathing, and concentration. The mind calms down.

Snowshoe Hike in the Snowy Paradise of Pelvoux-Vallouise

Today, Fred is taking us on a snowshoe hike to explore the hidden corners of Pelvoux-Vallouise. Large snowflakes are falling. All sounds are muffled; nature has donned its white mantle—it’s magical! The silence is almost complete. Only our footsteps crunch softly in the fresh snow. We stop talking; we simply contemplate and feel the energy of the place. Fred draws our attention to details invisible to the untrained eye. He shares his knowledge of the flora, fauna, and biodiversity.

We’re hiking in Écrins National Park, a wild and unspoiled area, where we spot the tracks of a goat that has just passed by.

A Low-Carbon Getaway in the Écrins: Time for Yourself

Take care of yourself. Breathe. Contemplate. Refocus. Read. Dream. Be in the present moment without judgment. These were our expectations for this unplugged getaway in Pelvoux-Vallouise. With our expectations fully met, we end our stay with a calm mind and a relaxed body. Experiencing a sustainable vacation, in line with our beliefs, reinforces this sense of well-being.

When Fred drives us back to the train station, the emotion is palpable. We’ve had a timeless experience—a gentle, restorative escape in the heart of the Écrins.
