Destination of Excellence: Committed to Sustainable, High-Quality Tourism
The Community Tourism Office has begun the process of obtaining the“Destination d’Excellence”(DEX) certification. This certification is the new national standard that replaces and expands upon the “Qualité Tourisme” certification, with a more comprehensive and sustainable approach to the destination.
The main benefits are to strengthen:
- The quality of the destination and its commitments to sustainable tourism, quality of service, and governance;
- Collaboration among local stakeholders (local governments, community and business leaders, resorts, and tourism bureaus) to work together toward a common strategy;
- The quality of customer service, accessibility, information, and the customer experience, as measured by indicators and audits.
A nationally recognized certification
The “Destination d’Excellence” certification is part of the national strategy to transform the tourism industry. It is gradually replacing the “Qualité Tourisme™”certification and raises the standards in the following areas:
- quality of hospitality and services
- respect for the environment
- local roots
- accessibility and inclusion
- continuous improvement of professional practices
