Ride along the wave Nordic in Vallouise

Discover the Nordic area of Vallouise-Pelvoux, nestled between 1,100 m and 1,300 m above sea level, which extends over 35 km of marked slopes divided into four sectors (La Vallouise, L’Onde, Pelvoux and Les Vigneaux). This site, on the edge of the Écrins National Park, combines a panorama of the surrounding peaks and the tranquility of the valley, ideal for classic cross-country skiing and skating.

Vallouise sector

In this friendly setting at the entrance to the village, you will perfect your technique on fun loops ideal for beginners.

  • La Plaine (2.0 km, green): gentle loop, perfect for toddlers or leisure biathlon.
  • Le Camping (0.75 km, green): mini-circuit in the heart of the pine forest, ideal for beginners.
  • Le Ranch (3.3 km, blue): flowing route around an old farm, 80 m of cumulative ascent (20 min).
  • Initiation stadium (0.6 km, flat track): fun area equipped with biathlon targets and technical workshops.

L’Onde sector

Here, you will start along the water, between forests and meadows, a magical route along the Onde.

  • Le Verger (2.5 km, easy): very rolling loop on the edge of the torrent, ideal for warming up (15–20 min).
  • Petite Onde (5.9 km, blue/red): alternating shady undergrowth and sunny clearings, +120 m difference in altitude (30–40 min).
  • Grande Onde (6.4 km, red): more sustained variant, to work on endurance, panoramas of the surrounding hamlets (45–55 min).
  • Le Villard (7.3 km, red/black): hilly profile, dry section through small alpine pastures, perfect for interval training (50–60 min).
  • Béassac chapel (15 km, black): long route (+400 m), leads to the listed chapel and then back on the forest path (2 hours).

Gyr-Pelvoux sector

Take the link with a departure from Vallouise and reach Pelvoux along the Gyr.

  • Saint-Antoine (1.1 km, green): short route, simple warm-up before switching to Pelvoux.
  • Le Freyssinet (2.1 km, blue): crosses larches and boxwood, two small successive climbs (15 min).
  • Le Gyr (3.2 km, blue): regular link (+100 m), very popular with cross-country skiers (25 min).
  • Les Claux (2.4 km, green): family route, along the river, ideal for wildlife observation.

Les Vigneaux sector

Finally, let yourself be surprised by this large loop between Vallouise and Les Vigneaux.

  • Le Chambon (3.6 km, blue): bucolic variant alternating undergrowth and meadows (30–35 min).
  • La Gyronde (10.5 km, red): loop between Les Vigneaux and Vallouise, spectacular views of the peaks (1 hour 15 minutes).
  • Ranch variant (0.5 km, green): quick connection to the main starting point.

Walks and snowshoes

The area offers more than 30 km of marked snowshoe itineraries, from family walks to more challenging itineraries, with panoramas of the Écrins massif:

  • La Ruinette (3.5 km, easy, difference in altitude +120 m, 1 hour): loop from the chalet, through the larch forest, ideal for the first steps on snowshoes.
  • Le Cloutas (2.6 km, easy, +80 m, 45 min): shaded path along small streams, accessible to families.
  • Pissette waterfall (2.6 km, medium, +200 m, 1 hour 15 minutes): gradual ascent to a frozen waterfall, remarkable viewpoint.
  • Les Eyssarts (8 km, medium, +300 m, 2 hours): route alternating open ridge and forest valleys, dominant view of the Pelvoux.
  • Puy-Aillaud (5.8 km, difficult, +400 m, 2 hours 30 minutes): demanding loop up to 1,400 m, panorama of the Onde valley and the Glacier Noir.
  • Vallouise–Puy Saint Vincent (2 km, easy, +100 m, 40 min): pedestrian link to the neighbouring resort, ideal for a gourmet break.
  • The pedestrian Gyr (3.4 km, medium, +150 m, 1 hour): combines snowshoe and hiking sections, views of the mountain pastures.
  • Les Claux pedestrians (3 km, easy, +90 m, 50 min): family loop along the Gyronde, picnic platforms equipped with planchas.

All routes are marked in white/red, with kilometre markers and information panels, and offer sheltered rest areas equipped with benches and tables.

Practical side

To reach the Nordic area, park for free in the large car park of the Maison du Parc national des Écrins, on the RD 94, route de Puy Saint Vincent: the Nordic chalet is right next door. You will find a heated area with Wi-Fi, an equipment room, sanitary facilities and a biathlon platform (10 m shooting not available). The area is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., subject to snow conditions. Don’t forget, the Nordic Pass is mandatory.
