The land of the ÉcrinsAn authentic and preserved space

Come and discover the Pays des Écrins, a wild and preserved territory, full of exceptional nature. From the green valleys and plains to the peaks of the snowiest high mountains, live an incalculable number of animal and plant species, from the smallest to the most majestic.
Thanks to the establishment of the National Park on our territory, maximum protection is present to best preserve its different species and provide them with an optimal living environment. Being at ease to develop, and away from humans, it is rather easy to observe them.

Flora

Many species of flowers and trees grow, some of which are specific to the mountain environment and the very high mountains. During hikes and walks, you will be able to observe a large number of species in an exceptional setting. From the Queen of the Alps, to the Génépi, through the magnificent flowering rhododendrons and the larch forests, you can at the same time discover the fauna that hides there.

In the park there are many flowers to discover. Some species are present at a very high altitude and to find out how they manage to live in a very snowy environment on the alpine level, you have to come and study them here, in the Écrins !

The trees of the Écrins National Park are an asset. There is a great diversity and each of the species can be very different from each other. Some trees can make the valleys beautiful in the spring. There are others that are fragrant and very interesting to study.

Invertebrates

A diversity of fauna is hidden (or shown) in our mountains. Invertebrates, including some rare species (the Isabella, the Cordulie Alpestre, etc.) live in the valleys of the Écrins.

They are everywhere, in our mountain pastures, in our mountains. But that doesn’t mean that there are many of them. These species must be protected and their capture is prohibited. No one likes to be in captivity, invertebrates even less so! If you come across the magnificent butterfly the Isabelle with its wings reminiscent of stained glass, you are very lucky! The valleys of the Écrins offer a great possibility of thematic studies around many rare species!

Amphibians and reptilians

The amphibians and reptilians that live in our territory are rare and specific to our environment. The mountain and southern environment allow these species to live on our territory.

Amphibians and reptiles possess beautiful bright colors and sometimes a formidable weapon. In the Pays des Écrins, there is the toxicity of the ringer which has earned it the title of one of the most toxic amphibians in France! It would be ideal to compare the different lifestyles between certain toads or alpine frogs for example.

Mammals

You can also come across endangered but protected mammals in the park. You will have no problem approaching the marmot, the mountain hare , the chamois. For the more adventurous, you will discover the wolf.

Birds

The mountain is the place where the great birds of prey of this world live, but also the smallest birds , which are surprising and fascinating to observe.

There is an educational interest in coming to study the diversity of the alpine fauna and flora in the Vallouise. Professionals and amateurs who come to the Parc des Écrins come from all over Europe. Their outing is carefully planned and generally revolves around certain themes or specific species. For their observations and research, our Park is really interesting, they leave delighted and hope to return for new discoveries.

If you need support, we advise you to go to mountain guides who will be able to provide you with their knowledge of the environment. Do not hesitate to contact them for more information.
