Narreyroux valley between waterfalls, chalets and mountain pastures
Above Puy Saint Vincent, the Narreyroux valley is a small natural jewel of the Pays des Écrins. A preserved alpine hamlet, a spectacular waterfall, accessible trails… Here, you walk to the rhythm of the bells and the freshness of the torrents.
Narreyroux valley The hamlet of chalets frozen in the snow
Above Puy Saint Vincent, the Narreyroux valley is a little gem in winter. Accessible only by snowshoe or ski touring (2 hours from 1,600 m), you cross a silent larch forest, punctuated by dizzying panoramas of the peaks of the Écrins. At the bottom of the valley, the small alpine hamlet takes shape: traditional chalets frozen under the snow, frosty waterfall, and the gentle lapping of the frozen torrent. A preserved setting where time seems to stand still.
Easy walk or more sporty hike?
From the Saint-Vincent chapel (15th century), take the paved road to the wooden bridge. Then, head left: you will quickly reach the Notre-Dame de Narreyroux chapel, then the alpine chalets. Two options:
The cool version: continues on the wide forest track.
The wild version: crosses the footbridge and runs along the Combe torrent on the right bank.
In an hour, you will be at the foot of the waterfall (1,930 m): an impressive wall of water in a green alpine setting. In summer, gentians and edelweiss line the path. For the more motivated, you can climb up to the Col du Bal, then reach Lake Neyzet and the ridges of Reychard. XXL panorama guaranteed over the Écrins.
Pastoral atmosphere guaranteed
In high season, the sheep graze freely around the chalets. The stone architecture and slate roofs testify to a heritage that is still very much alive.
