ICE Climbing Écrins:the must-attend event for ice climbing

Every winter, the ICE Climbing Écrins brings together the cream of the crop of ice climbing in the majestic Fournel and Freissinières valleys. This international festival attracts enthusiasts and curious visitors alike for a week filled with discoveries, learning, and competitions. As always, the event will kick off under a full moon, creating a unique atmosphere—and, hopefully, with ideal weather conditions: a high-pressure system and the cold temperatures essential for the formation of the famous icefalls.

Theevent program includes:

  • Introductory and advanced workshops: Led by more than 60 high-mountain guides, these sessions allow everyone—from beginners to experts—to improve their skills in ice climbing, ski touring, off-piste skiing, snowshoeing, splitboarding, and e-bike riding to access remote areas.
  • International Competition: The International Open and a stage of the European Ice Climbing Cup will bring together the best climbers in an exciting atmosphere.
  • Trade Show: Discover the latest innovations from leading mountain gear brands.
  • Themed evenings: roundtable discussions on key topics such as mountain safety and environmental impact, featuring renowned mountaineers, brand executives, members of civil protection agencies, NGOs, and political leaders.

The off-program festival will also have plenty to offer, with screenings of mountain and adventure films, panel discussions, concerts, a fireworks display, and, of course, the ICE’s traditional mulled wine to warm hearts after a busy day.

Whether you’re an experienced climber or just a spectator, ICE Climbing Écrins is an event you won’t want to miss, combining sports, camaraderie, and reflection on mountain-related issues.
