Fun heritage trails in Écrins: learning, playing, exploring
Visiting a village, a valley, or an old mine is great. But doing it as an adventure game is even better! With the Écrins Heritage Adventure Trails, you’ll rediscover the region while having fun. Thanks to the free LegendR app, every walk becomes a fun, immersive journey into local history. Four trails, four different experiences: it’s up to you to explore.
1 Ailefroide, the cradle of mountaineering
(1h30 – free)
This is where mountaineering was born. The trail takes you through forests and up to mountain peaks, following in the footsteps of the first guides. You’ll explore an unlikely hotel, climb the old-fashioned way, listen to firsthand accounts… and answer quizzes to learn everything there is to know without getting bored for a second.
2. Fournel Silver Mines
(2h30 including 1h15 underground – paying)
With the app in hand and a headset on, you’ll descend into the heart of an authentic mine. The mine cars, tools, and 19th-century machinery come to life thanks to augmented reality. Bonus: the underground tour is guided. Reservations are required!

- In summer: Every Friday meeting at 5:30 pm. Possible all year round by appointment.

3. The mystery of the church of Les Vigneaux
(1 hour – free)
Want to solve a real-life mystery? Head to Saint-Laurent Church. With medieval frescoes and interactive games, this adventure takes you on a quest to discover the Seven Deadly Sins. Perfect for families.
4. Falling from water Penstocks
(1 hour – free)
A tour that follows the impressive water conduits of L’Argentière. You’ll follow Gilbert, a slightly crazy kayaker, through tunnels and past dams. No need for a swimsuit, but watch out if you’re afraid of heights!
