3 girls on the rise of Roche Faurio!

Home My desire to My desire for the mountains 3 girls on the rise of Roche Faurio!

Micro-adventureA night under the stars facing the Glacier Blanc and its majesty, the Barre des Écrins!

Pregnant with our last children, we had set ourselves the challenge, that one year after giving birth we would climb one of the mythical peaks of the Massif des Écrins, Roche Faurio !

And what a good idea to boost yourself by telling yourself that you can also do this race in total autonomy, that is to say by sleeping under the stars and riding enough to bivouac and eat for the duration of the race.

Itinerary of the outing and… sharing some doubts…

The outing has been planned for a long time and the same morning when the desire to climb this beautiful mountain is very present, I wonder if I will make it… My head has already gone up there but would I have enough stamina to get there?

That’s where going with others helps! We know the potential of each one and even if the bag is sometimes a little heavy, we can count on our friends to take turns carrying them… But if you want a good tip: take light equipment with you and maybe leave the pâté and sausage and opt for food that is easier to transport!

A night in front of the Barre des Écrins

After stopping at the Refuge du Glacier Blanc, we leave with new energy after eating some dried fruit, we set off again for 400 m of difference in altitude towards the bivouac, the famous spot above the glacier and facing the Barre des Écrins.

Imagine slipping under your sleeping bag with such a view, watched over and protected by the starry sky above your head… A real pleasure! Sometimes I still think about that precious moment when I go to bed at night.

The 3:30 a.m. alarm clock didn’t ring… We were woken up (at 4:15 am) by a pair of mountaineers who were passing by and who asked us if we weren’t cold! Not at all, we are almost in great shape because in 10 minutes we are on the glacier putting on our crampons and roped up with the headlamp on. Let’s go for the glacier crossing!

The approach to the climb is magnificent with all the headlamps on, the crampons creaking in the snow, this mysterious atmosphere and the apprehension of the unknown…

Arrivals at the top!

600 m of difference in altitude further and a few blisters at the foot, we arrive at the top of the snow-covered Roche Faurio with an exceptional view of the Écrins massif! In the distance, we can see the ropes that make up the Barre des Écrins and the last ropes that go up to join us.

Amazing, we did it! A few tears of joy flow down our smiles!

A big thank you to life for this memorable outing!
