Adventure and thrills In the Écrins

In winter, the Pays des Écrins is transformed into a real playground for outdoor sports: downhill skiing, cross-country skiing or hiking, snowshoeing and snowtrail, ice climbing, fatbiking, dog sledding, mountain biking on snow and paragliding offer so many ways to move and feel the mountain. Each activity takes on a special dimension in our silent valleys with the Écrins National Park as a backdrop. Here, you alternate effort, sensations and wonder, far from the crowds. It’s up to you to choose your activity!

Summer in the Écrins is adventure in all its forms: climbing and mountaineering, hiking, trail and Nordic walking, cycling (mountain biking, e-mountain biking, downhill, road cycling), white water sports (kayaking, rafting, canyoning), paragliding and horse riding. The routes cross, the reliefs are climbed and the descents are experienced to the fullest. The territory becomes a vast field of exploration for all levels. It’s up to you to choose your activity!

Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and hiking

The areas of Puy Saint-Vincent and Pelvoux-Vallouise offer family or committed descents, while the Nordic areas such as Vallouise or Puy allow you to slide in classic or skating. The hinterland offers ski touring routes on glaciers and ridges, with possible supervision to improve your skills.

Snowshoeing and snowtrail

The network of the Pays des Écrins Trail Station continues in winter with snowtrails and marked snowshoe loops to vary the intensity. These routes combine effort and immersion, and allow you to explore the snowy valleys in peace.

Ice Climbing

The frozen waterfalls, especially around Freissinières and L’Argentière-la-Bessée, become technical walls for ice climbing, with events such as the Ice Climbing Écrins. The supervision by guides guarantees a safe and accessible approach, from the baptism to the lines engaged.

Dog sledding

Experience sliding pulled by teams in calm valleys: sensations and connection with the animal are experienced in immersion. These outings allow you to discover the mountain in a different way, in silence and in harmony with winter.

Hiking and trail running

The territory offers hundreds of kilometres of trails – including the Trail Station with its 32 routes and 470 km marked out – for walking, ultra, itinerant discovery or Nordic walking. You can follow the stages, vary the atmospheres and immerse yourself in the panoramas of the Écrins.

Climbing and mountaineering

Ailefroide, Pelvoux and the nearby massifs concentrate multi-pitch routes, rinds and glacial races: the terrain varies from sculpted limestone to technical glacier. Refuges, guides and local structures facilitate access, from initiation to the high mountains.

Mountain biking, downhill and road biking

From technical mountain bike and e-mountain bike circuits to mountain roads for road cyclists, the Pays des Écrins offers elevation gain, panoramas and fun descents. Equipped stations and assistance services make day trips or crossings easy.

Kayaking, rafting and canyoning

The Durance and its tributaries offer rafting, kayaking and canyoning, between thrills and aquatic immersion. The courses are adapted to all levels, with local actors to supervise safely.

Paraglider

Sites such as Puy Aillaud and Pelvoux allow easy take-offs and flights on the high-altitude thermals, with wide views of the ridges and valleys. Accessible to beginners and performers alike, summer flying benefits from stable conditions and an airy space without the crowds.

Horse riding

Horseback riding in the mountain pastures, guided walks and discovery of the territory at a leisurely pace: horseback riding offers a gentle connection with the landscapes. It is an accessible way to travel routes in a different way, for families and groups.
