The Vigneaux Vines, valley and verticality

Nestled at an altitude of 978 m on the banks of the Gyronde, the village of Les Vigneaux, gateway to the Vallouise, is an ideal starting point for exploring the whole of the Pays des Écrins. With its wine-growing past, the town knows how to please with its exposure as well as its historical and cultural heritage: remains of vines, Saint-Laurent church and communal oven bear witness to a rich mountain life. Visitors in search of history will find on the Route des Vignettes (commune of Saint-Martin-de-Queyrières) the site that tells the story of the era when the vineyards, exposed to the south of the Durance gorges, shaped the landscape.

Culture and heritage

At the foot of the Montbrison, Les Vigneaux embodies a thousand-year-old agricultural history, its name recalling the development of the vine from the eleventh to the nineteenth century thanks to the Mediterranean influences going up the Durance valley. The listed church of Saint-Laurent reveals a set of murals inside and, outside, a remarkable cycle of Vices and Punishments that attracts lovers of sacred art. Not far away, the Barry siphon, built at the beginning of the twentieth century to supply the L’Argentière-La-Bessée hydroelectric power station, illustrates the local industrial heritage. To extend the visit, the fun augmented reality tour “Randoland” guides you through these architectural and industrial treasures, combining discovery and games.

A starting point for your adventures

At the foot of the Montbrison, Les Vigneaux offers quick access to the highlights of the National Park. This geographical location favours quiet excursions as well as bike rides, paragliding flights from the nearby ridges, not to mention the high passes and lakes that dot the territory. At the junction of the roads between Argentière-La-Bessée, Puy Saint Vincent and Pelvoux, you can easily explore glaciers, waterfalls, resorts and secret hamlets while staying in this charming authentic village.

A starting point for your adventures

At the foot of the Montbrison, Les Vigneaux remains an ideal base in winter to explore the Écrins National Park. The village gives direct access to the Nordic area of Vallouise-Pelvoux (cross-country skiing and snowshoeing) and benefits from the Ski Buses which easily connect Puy Saint Vincent, Vallouise-Pelvoux or L’Argentière-la-Bessée (and its ice waterfalls). You can also go snowshoeing from Les Vigneaux to explore the valley or reach emblematic natural sites, with a village with a quiet and authentic atmosphere as a base camp.
